Campus remains open; extreme caution urged
Unless changing conditions warrant a new decision, Northwest will remain open, and final exams will continue as scheduled.
Weather-related developments as of Thursday, Dec. 13
- Campus Safety announced this morning that the following University facilities are without power: Fire Arts, Bearcat Stadium, Wellness Center, College Park Pavilion, Athletic Grounds Center, University Farm and Alumni House.
- As of Thursday morning, KXCV radio, the University's public radio station, was powering its transmitter with a propane generator and remained on the air.
- The Wellness Center will remain open today during regular hours with nurses on hand to provide medical services to the extent possible without power. The center’s extension is 1348. Counselors will be in the J.W. Jones Student Union today.
- No campus injuries due to falls or falling tree limbs have been reported as of today.
- Northwest has connected a generator to the Skidmore Water district in order to maintain the campus water supply.
- As of 9:30 pm last night (Wednesday, Dec. 12), no non-resident students had checked into the on campus shelter set up in Franken Hall. Most students living off campus whose residences are without power appear to have moved in with friends either living on campus or in off-campus housing where there is electricity. Franken remains open. Students seeking shelter must have a valid Bearcat ID card and should bring their own bedding if possible.
- Everyone is urged to help inform students living off campus who may be without heat or electricity that the Maryville Community Center is open and available as a shelter. The center is located at 1407 North Country Club Road. Call 660.582.2122 for shuttle service.
- All students, faculty and staff are advised to stay away from trees due to the danger of falling limbs. Everyone on campus should also take extra care to remain alert and avoid any areas marked with warning tape.
- Food service facilities remain open. Please remember that the use of candles is PROHIBITED in all residence halls.
