Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has declared a Winter Storm Warning for Nodaway County. The office of Residential Life in conjunction with Campus Safety would like to give you some information about how to deal with a possible ice storm on campus. The University will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, Dec. 11), but the Food Court and The Station convenience store will be open with limited menu options.

Our major concern during a storm like this is loss of power. While it is unlikely that this would occur, we believe it is better to be prepared and communicate ahead of time. If a power outage were to occur we would convene a crisis team to implement our crisis plan.

Things to keep in mind during a power outage

  1. Do not assume that we will or won’t evacuate. We will decide based on the situation at the time.
  2. Our phone system will work. If you would like to use your phone, make sure you have a “land line” plugged in. Cordless phones and VOIP will not work.
  3. If a power outage were to occur, we would open the front desk of each hall (or academy office) as soon as possible.
  4. If you are uncomfortable/nervous, you can gather in the main lounge of your building.
  5. Have a flashlight available with good batteries.
  6. We strongly discourage you from leaving the building during an ice storm.
  7. Candles are PROHIBITED!
  8. Personal Safety is more important than anything else.
  9. The University will communicate, to the best of its ability, through the residence hall staff.
  10. As always if you have an emergency you should contact Campus Safety at 660.562.1254.
