Dr. Joy Ladin
Dr. Joy Ladin, scholar, poet and author, will read from her memoir, "Inside/Out: Woman Caught in the Act of Becoming," at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in The Station's west meeting room.
The book details the challenges of Ladin's transgendered experience. A question and answer session will follow.
Ladin's first book of poetry, "Alternatives to History," was published by Sheep Meadow Press in 2003. A second volume of verse, "The Book of Anna," also by Sheep Meadow Press, came out in spring 2007.
Nominated for the 2007 Pushcart Prize, Ladin's poems and essays have appeared in many magazines, including "Parnassus," "North American Review," "The Michigan Quarterly" and "Exquisite Corpse."
Ladin, who currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence University, is on leave from her position as the David and Ruth Gottesman Professor of English at Yeshiva University's Stern College in New York. She previously taught at Princeton University and Reed College and served as poet-in-residence at Tel Aviv University on a Fulbright fellowship.
Laden's appearance at Northwest is being sponsored by Common Ground, a student organization that works to promote a healthy and positive environment for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
