Nold receives first White Memorial Scholarship

Jennifer Nold, a junior at Northwest Missouri State University from Union Star, is the first recipient of the inaugural Matthew White Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, established by Northwest alumni Steve and Julie White of Savannah, honors the memory of their son, Matthew White, an agricultural business major at Northwest who died at age 20 in a May 2005 automobile accident after completing his sophomore year.

Nold, the daughter of Steve and Kelly Stagner of St. Joseph, is an agricultural business major. After graduation, she and her husband plan to raise cattle and start a tractor repair business and tractor collectible store.

"I already know what type of merchandise I would like to sell in my store, where and how I want the merchandise arranged, and how I will design the building and land around it," Nold said. "I even know where I would like to build my tractor collectible store. The only reason the store isn't open now is because I feel it is more important for me to finish school without having the distraction of running a business."

Established last year through the Northwest Foundation, the Matthew White Memorial Scholarship benefits students who major in agriculture at Northwest. A scholarship of at least $500 will be awarded each year, with preference given to high school students from the Savannah or North Andrew County high schools.
