Yuletide Feaste offers food, music and merry old times

NOTE TIME CHANGE TO 5 P.M. FOR 2nd FEASTE EVENING, SATURDAY, DEC. 8

madraliers feaste

The Northwest Madraliers sing holiday songs from Tudor England at last year's
Yuletide Feaste.

Tickets are on sale now for Northwest's 34th annual Yuletide Feaste, a Renaissance-themed holiday celebration featuring more than 50 musicians, singers, actors, lords, ladies and, of course, royal personages in full regalia.

Sponsored by the Department of Music, the Feaste offers a glimpse of the Christmas season as celebrated in the noble halls of Tudor England more than 400 years ago. Highlights include a banquet of 16th century-style delicacies and "command" performances by the Northwest Madraliers, the Recorder Consort and Royale Brass Quintet.

This year's Feaste evenings begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.

Note that Saturday’s edition of the banquet has been moved to an earlier time in order to accommodate Bearcats football fans who plan to attend the NCAA Division II semifinal playoff game against the Grand Valley State Lakers, which begins at 8 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.

Dr. Brian Lanier, Yuletide Feaste director, has described the evening as a journey back to the days of Renaissance Europe, complete with period songs, dancing and entertainment.

As in years past, the ballroom will be transformed into a royal banquet hall complete with banners, canopies, a grand entryway and candelabras. Members of the Northwest Madraliers will greet guests with carols and other traditional music.

Costumed students, faculty and staff will fill such roles as king, queen, high chamberlain, herald, and lord and lady of the manor.

The Feaste is open to the public and all members of the University community. Tickets cost $27.50 per person and can be purchased at the music/art office on the first floor of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building, room 101, immediately west of the north entrance. Payment can be made using cash, checks, major credits cards or a University or Aladine account.

Tickets may also be ordered over the phone using a major credit card at 660.562-1315 (ext. 1315 on campus)
