The Northwest Madraliers under the direction of Dr. Brian Lanier.
Two Northwest vocal ensembles, the Madraliers and University Chorale, will perform in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, in the Performing Arts Center. Admission is free.
Both groups are under the direction of Brian Lanier, assistant professor of music.
The Madraliers, who also perform during the spring trimester as Celebration, the University's Show Choir, is a select ensemble whose repertoire ranges from Renaissance masterworks to compositions by modern-day composers.
A highlight of the chorus' fall season is the annual Yuletide Feaste, a campus holiday banquet scheduled this year for Dec. 7-8.
This is a special season for the Madraliers, who, in February, will perform a by-invitation concert at the Southwest Division American Choral Directors Association convention in Kansas City.
Among other works, the Madraliers' program on Nov. 18 will include works by Don Carlo Gesualdo and Maurice Ravel. The ensemble will also perform "American Trio" and "Rise Up, My Love" by 20th century composers Kirke Mechem and Healey Willan.
The University Chorale is Northwest's largest choral ensemble and maintains a repertoire selected for quality, variety, and audience appeal, whether the style is classical, gospel, contemporary or adapted from the Broadway stage.
During its portion of the concert, the chorale will perform "It's a Grand Night for Singing" from Rodgers and Hammerstein's "State Fair, "Not While I'm Around" from Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" and an arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's "America" from "West Side Story."
Additional selections include the "Anvil Chorus" by Giuseppe Verdi and "Easter Hymn" by Pietro Mascagni.
