Dr. Max Ruhl, dean of Northwest's College of Education and Human Services, has been selected to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees at his undergraduate alma mater, the College of the Ozarks.
Located at Point Lookout near Branson, the College of the Ozarks is a private liberal arts school serving about 1,600 students and noted for using an on-campus workstudy program in lieu of tuition.
Ruhl, who grew up in Neosho, graduated from the college in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in history and political science. He subsequently earned post-graduate degrees in educational administration from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville and holds an Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
After several years as a teacher and administrator in Neosho public schools, Ruhl joined the Northwest faculty in 1987 as an associate professor of educational leadership. He was promoted to full professor in 1995 and served as chairman of the Department of Educational Leadership from 1990-1997 before becoming dean.
The College of the Ozarks Board of Trustees functions as the institution's governing panel in a fashion similar to Northwest's Board of Regents. As a member, Ruhl will attend trustee meetings twice a year during the school's fall and spring semesters.
