


Molly Brodak Michael Dumanis Ethan Paquin
Northwest's Visiting Writers Series will present two evenings of poetry readings within the next two weeks.
Molly Brodac will read from her work at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, and Michael Dumanis and Ethan Paquin will conclude the fall trimester series at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5. Both events will take place in the J.W. Jones Student Union Boardroom. Admission is free.
Brodak is at work on an M.F.A. at West Virginia University, and her poems have appeared in "The New Orleans Review," "The Sonora Review," "The Journal" and "FIELD." Her chapbook, "Instructions for a Painting," was chosen by Reginald Shepherd as the winner of the 2006 GreenTower Press Midwest Series Chapbook Award.
Paquin is an assistant professor of humanities at Medaille College and the author of three books of poems: "The Makeshift" (Stride Publications, 2002), "Accumulus" (Salt Publishing, 2003) and "The Violence" (Ahsahta Press, 2005).
His work has been anthologized in several collections and has appeared in numerous journals, including "The Boston Review," "Verse," "Canadian Review of Books" and "Contemporary Poetry Review," for which he serves as contributing editor.
A native of New Hampshire, Paquin is founder and editor of the journal "Slope" (www.slope.org) and was named as a finalist this year for the Poetry Society of America's prestigious William Carlos William Award.
Dumanis was born in Moscow and grew up in New York state. He holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University, an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop and a Ph.D. from the University of Houston. His poems have appeared in "American Letters & Commentary," "Black Warrior Review," "Denver Quarterly," "New England Review," "Verse" and many other journals.
He is the recipient of fellowships from the Fulbright Commission, the James Michener Foundation and Yaddo.
With poet Cate Marvin, Dumanis co-edited the anthology, "Legitimate Dangers: American Poetry of the New Century" (Sarabande Books, 2006), and he is the recent recipient of The University of Massachusetts Press' 2006 Juniper Prize for Poetry.
Dumanis' collection, "My Soviet Union," was published this year. He lives in Lincoln, Neb., and is currently an assistant professor of English at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
