Northwest New Release

Parade route change, parking restrictions announced

Northwest Homecoming planners have announced a slight route change for the annual parade due to streetscape construction in downtown Maryville. In addition, the Office of Campus Safety has announced a number of street and campus parking lot closures that will be in effect on Homecoming Day.

Because of streetscaping and landscaping improvements now underway at the Nodaway County Courthouse, spectators will not be permitted to watch the parade from the courthouse lawn or adjoining worksite. Homecoming staff will be available near the courthouse to help spectators find appropriate seating.

Parade Route

As originally announced, the parade will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, on University Drive in front Roberta Hall and continue south to the main University entrance at Fourth Street before continuing east on Fourth.

Instead of proceeding across the square and turning north on Market Street, however, the parade will end at Main Street. The intersections of Third and Main, Fifth and Main and Fourth and Market will be blocked to traffic.

Street and parking lot closings

Please note the following campus road closures and parking restrictions, which will be in effect on Homecoming Day, Saturday, Oct. 27.

The campus portions of University Drive, 7th Street and 9th Street will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. Also closing at that time will be College Avenue (4th Street) from just west of the main campus entrance.

Campus parking lots in the vicinity of these streets will also close on Homecoming Day (lots 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26, and 27) and must be cleared of vehicles by 5 a.m. Vehicles left in these parking areas are subject to ticketing and towing.

The cleared lots will be used for various parade activities and as staging areas for floats. They will re-open following the parade.

Students with residential parking permits parked in lots 9 and 10 behind Roberta, Hudson and Perrin halls do not need to move their vehicles. Students parked in Lot 20 behind the Valk Agricultural Professions Center must move their vehicles to lots 11 or 12 prior to 5 a.m. on Homecoming Day.

Anyone with questions or concerns should call Campus Safety at ext. 1254 (660.562.1254).
