All 24 Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing students who competed Sept. 29 in the Great Plains Math League contest at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka, Kan., qualified for state competition.
"Congratulations to our students for their excellent performance and for being such great citizens in representing themselves and the Missouri Academy," said Missouri Academy Dean Cleopas Samudzi. "I also congratulate our residential counselors, Lisa Hamblen and Cassie Hunter, for leading the team to such success."
The Missouri Academy team placed first overall with 312 points, beating out second-place Pembroke Hill (296 points) and third-place Washburn Rural (162 points).
Other participating schools included Leavenworth High School, Rockhurst High School, Lawrence Free State High School and Seaman High School.
The Missouri Academy is an accelerated, residential program for young people academically talented in science and mathematics during what would be their final two years of high school. It is located on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Students who complete the program receive their high school diploma from the Academy and an associate of science degree from the University.
