Rebecca Evans was recently named director of the Small Business Development Center in St. Joseph.
Northwest SBDC comprises three offices that each fall under the direction of Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri Extension in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Northwest region covers 17 northwest Missouri counties.
Evans is responsible for providing resources and services to small business owners and entrepreneurs in the St. Joseph region.
Formerly employed in the healthcare industry, Evans holds a master's degree in administrative studies from Missouri State University in Springfield, and, with her husband, has owned and operated two small businesses. She has lived in St. Joseph for the past 6 years.
As director of the St. Joseph Office, Evans is responsible for offering guidance and advice on a variety of topics to owners of both startups and established businesses, usually free of charge.
The most common small business counseling concerns include how to start a business, writing business plans, financing, incorporating, permitting, market evaluation, advertising, exporting, workforce training, site or facility selection, bookkeeping and interacting with government agencies.
SBDCs are attached to institutions of higher learning throughout the United States, and their primary mission is to create economic impact through counseling and training for businesses with fewer than 500 employees.
