"Self Portrait" by Robert Royhl
Northwest's Visiting Artists Series returns for the 2007-'08 season with a lineup of exhibits and lectures featuring nationally recognized artists working in a variety of media from across the United States.
All exhibits take place in the first-floor gallery space in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building on the Northwest campus, which is open Monday 6-9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday 1-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30-5 p.m.
This year's opening guest artist is Robert Royhl, a noted painter and professor emeritus at Montana State University-Bozeman. His work will be on display Sept. 10-Oct. 5.
Royhl's paintings and etchings are described as "pictorial narratives based on intense observation of particular landscapes," and his "combination of processes achieve a rich, almost geological compression that reveals the hidden attractions and repulsions between people and places."
The artist will show slides and talk about his work during a lecture/reception scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in DeLuce 244.
