Welcome to the News Bureau

This section contains information designed to aid reporters and other media professionals in covering Northwest.

The University's primary news and media resource center is the News Bureau, which is operated by University Relations.

To contact the bureau, call 660.562.0817. Reporters, editors and broadcasters can also call the University Relations main number at 660.562.1143.

The News Bureau can be reached via e-mail at abrown@nwmissouri.edu.

The fax number for both the News Bureau and Northwest's Office of University Relations is 660.582.1900, and the mailing address is:

Access to Campus

Northwest is a public institution, and members of the news media are welcome on campus at all times for any legitimate purpose. However, we always appreciate it when reporters let us know they're coming. This often allows the News Bureau to arrange for source access and interviews beforehand, thus saving reporters time and effort when working on deadline.

With the exception of residence halls, which serve as private homes for our students, the great majority of University facilities are open to the media during regular business hours. Exceptions include classrooms, where individual professors may refuse access, and support facilities or construction sites where safety issues may exist.

Reporters are free to speak with any adult member of the University community whether or not they have made arrangements through the News Bureau. However, members of our community are also free not to respond. In addition, some students, such as those enrolled in the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing or pupils attending Horace Mann Laboratory School, are minors. In such cases, parental permission is required before an interview can take place. The News Bureau will be happy to help reporters secure such permission if it is needed to cover the story.

Parking

If your coverage of Northwest brings you to campus frequently, you will want to apply for a media parking permit.

Permits are issued at no charge. Just submit the following information to abrown@nwmissouri.edu, and your permit will be mailed to you:

Media Parking Pass Application:

Your full name
Business name
Work address and zip code
Work phone number
Emergency or cell number
Vehicle make and model
Vehicle color
Vehicle year
License plate number

Media parking permits are good for one year. If you don't have one and need to park on campus, temporary permits are available from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building.

Permanent and temporary permits are good at any campus lot posted for faculty and staff. They do not apply to reserved spaces or areas where parking is prohibited.

If you need to park on campus without a permit outside of regular business hours, a limited number of visitors' spaces are available just north of the circle drive on the east side of the Administration Building. Call 660.541.1173 if you have questions.

University Directory

'Northwest News,' News & Events, and Homepage Updates

"Northwest News" ("Northwest News" link)  is a weekly electronic newsletter that goes out each Thursday afternoon during the spring and fall trimesters (exclusive of finals week and holiday breaks) to all Northwest faculty and staff. A number of media professionals tell us that they find it useful.

If you would like to be added to the 'Northwest News' electronic mailing list, e-mail your request to abrown@nwmissouri.edu.

University press releases are also available online. If you can't find what you're looking for, e-mail abrown@nwmissouri.edu with your request.

Northwest's Homepage has a brief list of linked, recent headlines in its lower, left-hand corner along with a link to the news releases page captioned "All Northwest News."

In the event of a campus emergency, this portion of the homepage is the best place to look for the most recent updates issued by the Office of University Relations.

Information regarding weather-related closings and other emergencies is customarily linked to the graphic located just to the left of this homepage segment.
