Bearcat women fall in third place match
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team fell in the MIAA Third Place match Sunday 5-1 against Central Oklahoma.
The Bearcats fell to 13-11 on the season as they dropped their second match to the Bronchos this year.
Northwest picked up its only point early in the match at No. 1 doubles as Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek battled for an 8-4 win. UCO would rally back to take No. 2 doubles 8-2 before fighting off Northwest at No. 3 doubles with a 9-8 (12-10) win.
Entering singles action the Bronchos took control to shut down the Bearcats. Northwest fell at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles as UCO took the 5-1 win.
The loss likely dashed hopes of a NCAA tournament berth for the Bearcats. Northwest entered the week ranked fifth in the Central Region as the top four teams earn a berth in the regional tournament with the announcement to come Tuesday.
