Bearcat women cruise to 8-0 win over Bulldogs
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team rebounded Wednesday night with an impressive 8-0 victory over rival Truman State.
The Bearcats improved to 12-9 on the season and 7-3 in the final MIAA meeting between Northwest and Truman State. The Bulldogs fell to 5-9 overall and 2-9 in league action as the loss drops TSU out of the MIAA Championships with the Bearcats earning the fourth seed.
Northwest wasted little time dispatching of TSU with three straight wins in doubles action to take an early lead.
Singles action saw more Northwest dominance, as Camila Quesada breezed to a 6-3, 6-2, win over Maggi Schutte to finish 18-8 on the season at the No. 1 position.
Alexis Bartek won her fourth straight match with an easy 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 3 singles. Bartek and Quesada also teamed up at No. 1 doubles for their 19th win of the season.
The No. 4 seed Bearcats take on No. 5 seed Nebraska-Kearney in Friday’s first round of the MIAA Championships at 1 p.m. A win for Northwest would pit the Bearcats against the winner between No. 1 seed Southwest Baptist and No. 8 seed Fort Hays State.
