Bearcats sweep MIAA rivals

Washburn | Fort Hays State

TOPEKA, Kan. – After a tough loss earlier this week, the Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team rallied to sweep a pair of matches from MIAA foes Washburn and Fort Hays State Thursday.

Northwest improved to 10-8 on the season and 5-2 in league play with a 5-2 win over Washburn and a 5-1 victory over the Tigers.

Northwest took wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles before breezing to three wins in singles action claiming the victory.

Camila Quesada won her 11th match of the season at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Alexis Bartek, Quesada’s teammate at No. 1 doubles, also picked up her 11th singles win at the No. 3 position. Bartek cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jodie Blackim at No. 3 singles.

The Bearcats moved outside at the Wood Valley Tennis Complex and raced out to a 5-1 win over Fort Hays State in the cold weather.

The only loss for Northwest came at No. 2 singles as both teams did not finish doubles action after the Bearcats clinched the victory.

Quesada was pushed hard at No. 1 singles, but escaped with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 win over Camille Caron-Bedard.

Northwest returns home for a pair of matches Saturday and Sunday. Sunday the Bearcats will honor their lone senior, Emily Hoffman against Emporia State with action set to begin at 1 p.m. from Frank Grube Courts.
