Bearcat women split Saturday matches
TULSA, Okla. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday falling to Newman 5-3 before knocking off Arkansas-Fort Smith in the nightcap 7-2.
In the morning’s first match the Bearcats took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Emily Hoffman and Leslee Feldhaus cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles giving Northwest the early edge.
However in singles play the Bearcats came up on the short end. Alexis Bartek fought for a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles for the only singles win for Northwest.
Northwest and Newman both battled in singles as Gisela Font fell in a hard fought match at the No. 4 position, 7-5, 6-4 before the Jets pulled out the 5-3 win.
The nightcap saw the Bearcats pick snap their skid in Tulsa. After three matches against top region opponents, the Bearcats claimed a 7-2 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith in the weekend finale.
Bartek and Quesada cruised to a win at No. 1 doubles while Hoffman and Feldhaus gave Northwest a 2-1 lead with a win at No. 3 doubles.
The Bearcat women rallied in singles picking up wins in every position except No. 3 and No. 2 singles.
Quesada won her ninth match of the year at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Masa Podunavac.
The Bearcats return to action Tuesday as they travel to take on NCAA Division rival UMKC. Action at the Plaza Tennis Center is set for a 4 p.m. start.
