Quesada & Bartek fall in ITA Finals
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team nearly gave the Bearcats a sweep of doubles titles Sunday at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek were able to outshine their No. 3 seed they received entering the tournament. The duo finished as runners-up falling to Southwest Baptist’s Fanni Varga and Mehak Singh the top ranked double team in the Central Region, 6-4, 7-6.
Varga and Singh were also the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked singles players entering the weekend as the duo met in the championship round of singles play as well.
Quesada finished off a solid weekend as the junior advanced to Saturday’s semifinals before falling to top ranked Varga, 7-6, 6-4 in a tough match.
Bartek also fared well for the Bearcats in singles action advancing to the quarterfinals where she fell to Singh, 6-3, 6-3.
The Central Regional Championships included nine teams on
the men's side and 12 teams on the women's side consisting of 117 singles
players and 61 doubles teams. The conferences that were represented included:
the Great American Conference (GAC), the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics
Association (MIAA), and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
The men's and women's singles champions and the men's and women's doubles champions advance to the ITA Small College Nationals on Oct. 11-14 in Mobile, Ala.
