Northwest women rally for 6-3 win over ESU
EMPORIA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team picked up a hard fought road win at Emporia State on Saturday winning 6-3.
The Bearcats moved to 9-10 overall on the season and improved to 4-1 in league play. ESU dropped just its second MIAA match falling to 4-2 and 14-5 overall. Northwest will close out the regular season with two matches next week, a resumption of play against Southwest Baptist before finishing at Missouri Western on Wednesday.
Northwest grabbed two wins in doubles action with Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek cruising to an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. The duo moved to 14-5 on the year and stay a perfect 5-0 in MIAA doubles play at the No. 1 position.
Kim Ho and Emily Hoffman picked up the other doubles win at No. 3 winning 8-4 as the Bearcats dropped No. 2 doubles by the same score.
ESU jumped out early on the Bearcats taking No. 1 and No. 2 singles; however, the Bearcat lineup would battle back taking wins at the final four spots to seal the victory.
Bartek moved to 13-1 on the year at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win as Ho and Hoffman also cruised in their singles matches at No. 4 and No. 6.
Stephanie Mannix finished off the Lady Hornets with 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles giving Northwest the 6-3 win.
