Bearcats drop first MIAA match
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis dropped its first league game Wednesday evening falling 6-3 at Washburn in MIAA action from the Washburn Tennis Complex.
The Bearcats fell to 8-10 overall and 3-1 in league play while the Lady Blues improved to 7-7 overall and 4-1 in league action. Northwest continues its final road swing of the season continuing conference play at Southwest Baptist and Emporia State.
Northwest struggled in doubles action for the second consecutive match as Alexis Bartek and Camila Quesada picked up the Bearcats only win at No. 1 doubles. The duo earned an 8-3 win as the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the Bearcats were nipped 9-8 (7-3) and 8-6 respectively.
Quesada and Bartek were the only winners on the day for Northwest as Quesada was a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles.
Bartek also earned a hard fought victory at No. 3 singles winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.
The Lady Blues finished the Bearcats off taking No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Washburn also won at No. 5 singles, but Steph Mannix did not go down without a fight. Mannix fell 2-6, 7-6 (13-11), 10-5 as the Lady Blues claimed the 6-3 win.
