Bearcat women split with Newman and DBU
TULSA, Okla. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team picked up a 5-0 win from Newman Saturday morning before falling to Dallas Baptist, 5-2 from La Fortune Park.
The Bearcats saw their record move to 6-8 on the year as their win Saturday morning helped head coach Mark Rosewell move to career win number 900. Rosewell would capture the milestone victory later in the afternoon as the men claimed a 5-0 win over Dallas Baptist.
The Northwest women continued to dominate in doubles play as the swept all three matches from the Lady Jets.
Erika Leston earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles to push the Bearcats within one win of clinching the match.
Leslee Feldhaus closed out the win with a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 3 position for Northwest as the remaining singles matches were left unfinished.
The afternoon match did not fare as well for Northwest as the Bearcats lost a valiant fight to regional power Dallas Baptist.
Northwest claimed a win at No. 3 doubles as Kim Ho and Emily Hoffman won 8-6. However the Lady Patriots took the 2-1 lead into singles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
The Bearcats did manage one win at No. 5 singles as Stephanie Mannix won 6-3, 6-0.
Northwest will quickly return to the court Sunday afternoon hosting MIAA rival Truman. Two seniors will be honored at Frank Grube Courts at 12:45 p.m. with tennis action beginning at 2 p.m.
