Northwest powers past UNK
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – It was another solid outing for the Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team Friday evening as they took an 8-1 win from Nebraska-Kearney as the new Elite Squad Tennis Club in Overland Park, Kan.
The Bearcats record moved to 2-1 while the Loopers fell to 2-2 on the young season dropping their second straight while Northwest won its second in a row. Northwest continues its busy weekend as they host future MIAA member Lindenwood on Saturday in their first home match of the year.
In doubles action the Bearcats took a sweep winning all three matches to lead 3-0 heading into singles play.
After a Looper win at No. 1 singles over Camila Quesada, 6-1, 6-3 (10-6), it was all Bearcats from there.
Erika Leston took a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles as Alexis Bartek followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win.
Kim Ho easily handled her match at No. 5 singles winning 6-0, 6-3 to clinch the match.
Play continued as Northwest took tie-break wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles via Stephanie Mannix and Leslie Feldhaus respectively. Mannix was a 7-5, 6-4 (10-8) winner while Feldhaus won 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 (10-3).
