Bearcats hold off Cardinals for 7-2 win
LIBERTY, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s tennis team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday taking a 7-2 decision from William Jewell at the Clayview Country Club.
The Bearcats moved to 1-1 on the year as they handed the Cardinals only their second loss of the season dropping their record to 5-2. Northwest has a quick turnaround as its takes on Nebraska-Kearney Friday in Kansas City before hosting Lindenwood on Saturday in the first home match of the season.
Northwest took an early 2-1 lead with wins from Camila Quesada and Alexis Bartek at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, and Emily Hoffman and Kim Ho at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-4.
In singles play the Bearcats quickly moved to 5-1 with wins from Quesada at No. 1 singles, Erika Leston at No. 2 singles and a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles from Bartek.
William Jewell earned its only singles win at No. 4 singles, but it was not without a fight. Hana Lindbloom picked up the 7-5, 1-6, 9-11 win at No. 4, but it was all Bearcats from there.
Kim Ho cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles before Leslee Feldhaus battled for a 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 to close out the match and give Northwest the 7-2 win.
