Bearcats split a pair in Oklahoma
TAHLEQUAH, Okla.-The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis squad split a pair of regional matches on Friday down in Oklahoma. The Bearcats fell to 21st-ranked Northeastern State 5-0 in the first match of the day, but responded in the second match to beat Southeastern Oklahoma State 6-1.
Rocio Rapallo Fernandez and Ashleigh Kaberline were the only Bearcats (10-12) to play their singles matches against Northeastern State as the Riverhawks swept doubles play in the match and needed just two victories in singles competition to secure the win.
Against Southeastern Oklahoma, the Bearcats swept doubles play and won three-out-of-four in singles competition. The teams of Alexis Bartek and Emily Hoffman and Sureena Weir and Alison Wulff both won their doubles matches 8-3. The duo of Erika Leston and Leslee Feldhaus were also victorious in doubles play, winning 8-6.
In the singles portion, Erika Leston had the biggest win, defeating Southeastern's Marie Liwuslili 6-1 and 6-0. Weir was victorious in her matchup, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Kaberline also picked up a singles victory in the match, winning 6-1 and 7-5.
Northwest will return to action on April 18 as the Bearcats play their conference finale against Nebraska Omaha at 4 p.m. in Maryville.
