Bearcats make quick work of Missouri Western
MARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis team won its third consecutive MIAA match on Tuesday afternoon as the Bearcats shutout rival Missouri Western 9-0. The victory is the 28th-straight for Northwest over the Griffons.
Northwest (7-8, 4-2 MIAA) made quick work of Missouri Western as the Bearcats failed to lose a single set in the win. Erika Leston and Emily Hoffman didn't lose a game, each picking up 6-0, 6-0 victories. Rocio Rapallo Fernandez won her match 6-1, 6-0. Alexis Bartek was victorious 6-0 and 6-2, while Ashleigh Kaberline (6-1, 6-1) and Sureena Weir (6-2, 6-3) also picked up singles wins.
In doubles play it was the same story for Northwest as the Bearcats lost just four games in the three matches. The duo of Weir and Alison Wulff blanked their opponent 8-0. While the team of Leston and Leslee Feldhaus won their matchup 8-1 and the team of Hoffman and Bartek were victorious 8-3.
The win on Tuesday marks the second time this season that Northwest has posted a shutout. The Bearcats have not lost to Western since 1985.
Next up for Northwest is a meeting with first-place Washburn on Wednesday afternoon. The Bearcats host the Lady Blues at 2 p.m. along with the Bearcat men who will be hosting the Washburn men.
