Northwest sweeps Lincoln
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State lost just eight games in quickly breezing past MIAA-newcomer Lincoln Saturday at the St. Joseph Tennis and Swim Club. It is the seventh tennis match in as many days for the Bearcats (5-6) which moved to 3-2 in league play.
Northwest's Erika Leston and Sureena Weir made quick work of Camila Araujo and Shelby Penno at number one and three singles, respectively. Leston won 6-1, 6-1. Weir won 6-1, 6-0.
Leston teamed with Leslee Feldhaus to defeat Araujo and Penno 8-1 at the top doubles position. Weir and Alison Wulff shut out Victoria Banks and Ashley Williams, 8-0, at three doubles.
Lincoln (0-6, 0-4 MIAA) won four of its eight games at number two doubles where Tierra Phillips and Alina Katrevich lost 8-4 to Northwest's Alexis Bartek and Emily Hoffman.
Following the marathon, Northwest will take five days off before returning to the court. The Bearcats take on Newman Friday and battle Arkansas-Fort Smith and Dallas Baptist next Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
