Bearcats top Bulldogs 5-2 in Kirksville
KIRKSVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's top three players won singles matches and the Bearcats' took two of three in doubles play to earn a 5-2 win against Truman Thursday on the Truman Tennis Courts. The match was played to five due to cold temperatures.
The match was highlighted by a 6-0, 6-2 win by Northwest's Erika Leston against Truman's Amy Ochs at the top singles position. Ochs and Ellen Russell had beaten Leston and Rocio Rapallo Fernandez, 8-4, at number one doubles. It was the first doubles competition for Rapallo Fernandez this season.
Alexis Bartek topped Maggi Schutte, 6-4, 6-1, at number two singles and Sureena Weir won a three-set match against Russell at number three for the winning point. Northwest won its two doubles points by a combined score of 16-3. Weir and partner Alison Wulff won their fifth straight doubles match to earn one of those points.
Northwest (4-5) pulled even in the MIAA standings at 2-2 while Truman (3-3) fell to 1-2.
