Northwest dominates Tigers for first MIAA win
HAYS, Kan.-The Northwest Missouri State women's tennis squad had a big day on the road as the Bearcats dominated Fort Hays State 8-1 to win their first MIAA match of the season.
Northwest (2-3, 1-1 MIAA) swept the singles competition on the day. Northwest number one player Erika Leston won her match 6-0 and 6-1. Emily Hoffman also surrendered just one game in her match, winning 6-1, 6-0. Alexis Bartek won 6-4 and 6-0, while Sureena Weir was victorious 6-2 and 6-1. Rocio Fernandez and Ashleigh Kaberline won 6-1, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4, respectively.
In doubles play, the team of Hoffman and Bartek won their match 8-2 while the team of Sureena Weir and Alison Wulff were also dominate, winning 8-1. The Tigers fall to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA.
The women return to action on Sunday as they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to face Truman in an MIAA matchup along with the Bearcat men.
