MARYVILLE, Mo.-Defending MIAA champion Northwest Missouri State dropped its league and home opener, 5-4, to Emporia State Thursday at the Frank Grube Courts. The Lady Hornets, 2-5 in the league a year ago, are 3-0 in the MIAA to begin 2011.
Emporia State (4-0) won two of three doubles matches and held its advantage by splitting six singles matches. All three Lady Hornet wins were by straight sets.
