Northwest gets first win at UMSL
ST. LOUIS - Northwest Missouri State won five of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 win against Missouri-St. Louis Saturday on the UMSL tennis courts.
The Bearcats (1-2) trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but surrendered just nine games in winning four singles points. Rocio Rapallo Fernandez earned the Bearcats' fifth singles victory after winning a 10-7 super tiebreaker against Katie Rynkiewich at number four singles.
Northwest's Sureena Weir defeated Aya Gombo, 6-1, 6-1, at number three singles and teamed with Alison Wulff to net an 8-4 win at number three doubles. Louisa Werner secured two wins for the Tritons (0-4) including a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win against Erika Leston at the top singles position.
The Bearcats return to the court Wednesday in their home and MIAA opener against Emporia State at 3 p.m.
