Northwest Opens Season at Washburn
Topeka, Kan.—The Bearcat women’s tennis team opened its 2010 fall schedule on Sept. 3-4 at the Washburn Invitational. Northwest Missouri State had a champion, two consolation winners and a doubles runner-up.
Junior Erika Leston won the women’s A draw consolation by defeating Rockhurst’s Erin Bales 1-0. Alexis Bartek won the women’s B draw in her first competition as a Bearcat. Bartek was up on Emporia State’s Shea Schmidt before Schmidt had to withdraw.
In the women’s C draw Ashleigh Kaberline defeated Alex Crowe in the finals 3-6, 6-4 and 10-5. Leston and Bartek finished the best for the Bearcats in the doubles competition. They were defeated by the team of Whitley Zitsch and Morgan Rainey of Washburn 7-9 in the finals.
The Bearcats will next compete this fall on Sept. 17 at the Truman Tournament.
