Northwest Blanks Western to Clinch Outright Title
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's women's tennis team beat Missouri Western 9-0 Wednesday to clinch the MIAA's regular season title with an unblemished 7-0 record. The 41st-ranked Bearcats (15-6) won their 10th match in a row and will be the top seed in this weekend's MIAA tournament. Northwest has won 26 consecutive matches against Missouri Western.
The Griffons (3-14, 0-7 MIAA) won just six games in the nine matches that were played. Lisa Pendrak, Veronica Castilla and Sureena Weir posted identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at number one, two and three singles, respectively. Castilla won her 10th singles match in a row to improve to 16-4 on the season. Weir has won nine in a row. Weir and Brittney Browning teamed to earn an 8-0 win at number three doubles.
Lindsay Weideman, Brittney Browning and Emily Hoffman dropped just one game in winning their respective single matches. Weideman has won nine consecutive in singles play.
