Dallas Baptist Knocks Off Northwest
DALLAS, Texas-Northwest Missouri State lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season after dropping a 6-3 decision to Dallas Baptist Monday. The loss drops the 44th-ranked Bearcats to 5-4.
Northwest's Veronica Castilla and Brittney Browning continued solid singles play and earned two of the Bearcats' three points Monday. Castilla improved to 6-1 after beating Jeanelle Stines 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. It's the second three-set win by Castilla in as many days. Browning won her third match in a row by topping Lexi Yeado 6-2, 6-4 at six singles.
Dallas Baptist led 2-1 after doubles play and three of its four singles wins came in straight sets. Lisa Olian won a three-set match against Northwest's Erika Leston at the top position, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Northwest's Sureena Weir and Emily Hoffman teamed together for the first time this season and earned an 8-2 win against Yeado and Laura Atkins at number three doubles. Weir is 5-2 in doubles play overall.
