Northwest Downs Kearney 7-2
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State won two of three doubles matches and earned five straight-set wins in singles play to defeat Nebraska-Kearney 7-2 Monday on the Frank Grube Tennis Courts. The win moves the 44th-ranked Bearcats to 4-2.
Northwest number two doubles tandem of Lisa Pendrak and Veronica Castilla fought back from a break down to beat Nickola Messbarger and Mizuki Takahashi 8-5. Allison Wulff and Sureena Weir teamed to earn an 8-3 win at number three doubles to move to 4-2.
Singles play was highlighted by a 6-0, 6-1, win by Castilla against Takahashi. Brittney Browning surrendered just two games to Melissa Lyster to net the Bearcats' a point at number six singles. Northwest's Erika Leston won a number one singles match against Kristen Messbarger, 6-4, 6-2.
Northwest begins a string of six road matches in six days Friday against East Central. The Bearcats return home March 26 against Fort Hays State.
