Women's Tennis Wins Home Opener
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State trailed 2-1 after doubles play, but won four out of six singles matches to earn a 5-4 victory against Ferris State Wednesday on the Frank Grube and High Rise Courts. It was the home opener for the 44th-ranked Bearcats, who improved to 2-1.
Lisa Pendrak and Veronica Castilla teamed to earn an 8-3 win at number two doubles and earned two more points by winning in singles play. Pendrak defeated Tiffany Rheynard, 6-4, 7-6, at number two singles while Castilla earned a 6-4, 6-4 win against Tabitha Simpson at number three singles.
Northwest's Erika Leston won a second-set tiebreaker to beat Amy Ingle in straight sets at number one singles. Sureena Weir defeated Melissa Flowers, 7-6, 6-4, at number four singles to net the Bearcats another point.
The Bearcats continue a five-game homestand Friday against Missouri-St. Louis (10 a.m.) and Saturday against Drury (11 a.m.).
