Northwest Stops Newman 6-2

TOPEKA, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State earned its first win of the season after defeating Newman 6-2 Friday. The 44th-ranked Bearcats are 1-1.

Northwest won two of three doubles points and surrendered just four games in winning four singles matches. Bearcat Brittney Browning had a 6-0 lead in her match before play ended.

Veronica Castilla defeated Newman's Emily Jones 6-0, 6-0 in singles play and teamed with Lisa Pendrak to score an 8-3 win at number two doubles. Pendrak and Sureena Weir each scored two wins on the day.

Northwest is scheduled to host Ferris State Wednesday in what would be the Bearcats' home opener.
