Women’s Tennis Adds Weir, Wertz

MARYVILLE, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State head tennis coach Mark Rosewell has announced the signings of Sureena Weir of Midland, Texas, and Michelle Wertz of Clinton, Mo. Both will compete for the Bearcats during the 2009-10 season.

Weir was an All-American at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, this past season and helped lead the Apaches to a third-place finish at the 2009 NJCAA Women’s Tennis National Championships. Tyler finished 19-3 overall. Weir placed second in Flight 3 at the national competition and finished with a national singles ranking of 45.

Weir is a 2007 graduate of Midland Lee High School. She’ll be a junior athletically in her first season as a Bearcat.

Wertz is a 2009 graduate of Clinton High School, where she was a state qualifier in 2007. She spent the 2008-09 tennis season competing for the United State Tennis Association.

Northwest won its 11th MIAA tournament this past season and qualified for the NCAA tournament for the 15th consecutive season. The Bearcats finished with a 16-6 record.
