JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.—Northwest Missouri State competed without top singles player Lina Gomez, but had little trouble sweeping Lincoln Monday on the Blue Tigers’ campus.
It’s the 12th straight win for Northwest against its future-MIAA foe dating back to 1991. Lincoln is set to re-join the conference in 2010 following an 11-year absence.
Northwest won 24 of 31 games in doubles play and took all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the 9-0 win.
Erika Leston won her 16th singles match in a row and improved to 23-1 on the season with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Leston’s 23 wins are tied for the fourth-most in program single-season records.
Veronica Castilla won her 11th straight singles match and moved to 9-0 in doubles when teamed with Jordan Lipira, who earned her 70th collegiate singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Camila Arauto.
The win improves Northwest’s record to 12-4. The Bearcats will play their regular-season home finale at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Graceland.
