Castilla Earns Second Straight POW Honor

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior Veronica Castilla has been named the MIAA Female Tennis Player of the Week for the period ended April 5. It's the second straight weekly honor for Castilla, a junior from Puertollano, Spain.

Castilla was 4-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action with partner Jordan Lipira as the Bearcats went 3-1 last week. Castilla has won eight consecutive singles matches in straight sets and is 7-0 in doubles play this season with Lipira.

Castilla won 36 of 39 games to win her first three singles matches last week, then beat Washburn's Alyssa Castillo, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) during the team's 5-4 loss to the nationally-ranked Lady Blues.

Scores in doubles play went 8-1 against Rockhurst, 8-3 against Emporia State and 8-2 against Washburn. The Bearcats' dual with Fort Hays State did not feature doubles matches.
