Northwest Wins 25th Straight Meeting With Missouri Western
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State remained undefeated following its 9-0 win against Missouri Western Wednesday at the Frank Grube Courts located on Northwest's campus. It's the 25th consecutive win for the Bearcats against the Griffons dating back to 1986.
Northwest (4-0, 3-0 MIAA) dropped just 11 games during the match to run its conference win streak to 10 games. The Bearcats have won eight straight home duals dating back to last season.
Northwest freshman Erika Leston didn't drop a game Wednesday, beating Amber Adams 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and teaming with Jordan Lipira to score an 8-0 decision against Adams and Michelle Ritter at No. 2 doubles. The Bearcats won 24 of 26 games in doubles play.
Veronica Castilla beat Adams 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to run her unbeaten streak to four games. Lipira improved to 10-2 and Lisa Pendrak moved to 12-2 following wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Northwest is back in action tomorrow with a 2 p.m. match in Kansas City against Midwestern State. The Mustangs (5-5) are ranked one spot ahead of the Bearcats in the regional rankings at No. 9.
