Northwest Starts MIAA Play with 8-1 Win Against Missouri Southern
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Jordan Lipira lost only one game between doubles and singles as No. 39 Northwest Missouri State (2-0, 1-0 MIAA) took an 8-1 match from Missouri Southern (2-2, 0-1 MIAA) in the MIAA-opener for both teams.
Lipira swept Lauren Skimbo 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and teamed with Erika Leston at No. 2 doubles for an 8-1 win against Skimbo and Becca Sterling. Veronica Castilla also held her opponent scoreless at No. 4 singles while Leston and Brittney Browning surrendered only one game in their straight-set singles wins.
The Bearcats have outscored opponents 72-23 in singles play this season to remain undefeated in singles action this season.
Up Next: Northwest stays at home to take on Southwest Baptist at 11 a.m. The purple Bearcats lost their MIAA-opener to Nebraska-Omaha 6-3 earlier today.
