Northwest Falls to Barry 5-0 in Round of 16
HOUSTON - Barry used a 3-0 start in doubles play and won two singles matches to defeat Northwest Missouri State 5-0 in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships today at the Homer Ford Tennis Center in Houston.
No. 8 Barry (21-6) advances to the national quarterfinals against Armstrong Atlantic. No. 31 Northwest (23-5) ends its season in its sixth straight national tournament appearance.
The Bearcats dropped the three doubles matches, but won three games at No. 1 doubles against the 11th-ranked duo of Ildiko Csordas and Caroline Stevens. The Buccaneers won the first set of all six singles matches and closed the match with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.
Northwest ends the season with the third-highest win total (23) in program history. Kristina Vucenov ended her collegiate career as the top singles player in school history, winning a record 30 matches this season.
