Vucenov Finishes Fifth At Nationals
Northwest senior tennis player Kristina Vucenov placed fifth at the ITA National Small College Championships Saturday in Mobile, Ala. It’s the highest finish for a Northwest student-athlete in program history.
Vucenov went 2-1 at the tournament with her lone loss to eventual champion Elwen Li of BYU-Hawaii. Vucenov beat Darina Berkova of Northwood in the second round 7-6, 6-4, and topped Ildiko Csordas of Barry 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the fifth-place match. Csordas is ranked eighth in the latest Division II rankings.
Vucenov, a senior from Novi Sad, Serbia, is 8-1 in her first season with the Bearcats. She was 6-0 in winning the ITA regional tournament at Northwest back on Sept. 23.
