About the Winstead-Reeves Classic
Formerly the Ryland Milner Classic which encompassed both men's and women's classics, the women's classic was added as part of the Northwest centennial in 2005 to honor 20-year head coach Wayne Winstead and the inaugural coach Sherri Reeves. The classic has been held continuously since 1976. more info


About Wayne Winsteadp.m.

Winstead retired as the winningest coach in Northwest and MIAA history after the 1999 season. He won the 1984 MIAA championship and coached two NCAA tournament teams (1984, 1990). He was a two-time MIAA Coach of the Year (1984, 1990).

Winstead was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Northwest Missouri State M-Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility.

Winstead passed away Jan. 17, 2005. He will be represented this weekend by his wife Bonnie and his daughter, Northwest Assistant Professor Dr. Shelly (Winstead) Hiatt, who will both assist in the presentation of all-classic honors. | more info


About Sherri Reeves

Reeves coached the first four women's basketball teams at Northwest and finished with a program-record .802 winning percentage. She won the 1972 MAIAW championship in the program's first season and finished fifth in the AIAW Region VI Championships.

After coaching, Reeves served 25 years as assistant athletic director and senior women's administrator before her retirement in 2001. She was inducted into the Northwest Missouri State M-Club Athletic Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility in 2005.

Reeves remains an active supporter of Bearcat athletics and will be on hand for the presentation of all-classic honors.
