Bearcat Arena turns pink as Griffons come to town

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team will continue in their annual tribute to breast cancer awareness as they will host Missouri Western Wednesday for their Pink Zone Game.

Head coach Mark Kellogg and the Bearcats will focus their efforts on two local families both of whom are employees of Northwest, the Mannasmith family and the Jacobsen family. The money raised will go to help both families as they continue their battles with cancer.

Along with the pink festivities Northwest will have a pivotal game with against Missouri Western with MIAA tournament seeding implications on the line. The Griffons are sitting in the eighth spot of the conference standings at 6-8 while the Bearcats fight for positioning from 10th place and are 5-10 in league play this season.

Monique Stevens is coming off back-to-back games where she led the Bearcats in scoring and assists. Stevens is second in the conference averaging 4.5 assists per game. This will be Stevens first contest against the rival Griffons.

A number of different activities will take place during the game including a silent auction highlighted with autographed Bearcat items. The auction will begin at 4:30 p.m. and bidding will close at halftime of the men’s game. All proceeds of the silent auction will go to the families to help with treatment costs.

Bearcat fans are encouraged to wear pink, and a limited quantity of Official Pink Zone shirts will be available for purchase for $15 at game along with several other items of interest for fans. These will be the same shirts both the men’s and women’s teams will wear during pregame warm-ups against the Griffons. The Bearcat women will also be wearing limited edition, custom adidas® pink uniforms for the game. The jerseys will be available for advanced purchase by contacting assistant coach Kristen Mattio at
