Bearcats set for annual Pink Zone game

The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team will continue in their annual tribute to breast cancer awareness when they host Missouri Western on Feb. 20 for their Pink Zone Game.

Throughout February many college teams across the country join together with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Pink Zone effort in the fight against breast cancer. In the past, the Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team has found ways to help local cancer survivors, and this year is no different.

Head coach Mark Kellogg and the Bearcats will focus their efforts on two local families both of whom are employees of Northwest, the Mannasmith family and the Jacobsen family. The money raised will go to help both families as they continue their battles with cancer.

A number of different activities will take place during the game including a silent auction highlighted with autographed Bearcat items. The auction will begin at 4:30 p.m. and bidding will close at halftime of the men’s game. All proceeds of the silent auction will go to the families to help with treatment costs.

Bearcat fans are encouraged to wear pink, while Official Pink Zone shirts will be available for purchase for $15 at the next two home games (Feb. 13 and 16) leading up to the Feb. 20 match up with Missouri Western; these will be the same shirts both the men’s and women’s teams will wear during pregame warm-ups against the Griffons. The Bearcat women will also be wearing limited edition, custom adidas® pink uniforms for the game. The jerseys will be available for advanced purchase by contacting assistant coach Kristen Mattio at

Jock’s Nitch of Maryville has partnered with the Bearcats to help provide the adidas® uniforms and the special “Pink Zone” shooting shirts. The Bearcats also want to invite all breast cancer survivors and fighters to attend the games on the 20th as a guest of Bearcat Basketball free of charge, please RSVP to the email address below for your ticket.
