Bearcats welcome Nebraska-Kearney
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team will play host to MIAA opponent Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at Bearcat Arena.
The Bearcats opened up MIAA competition against Lindenwood last Wednesday with a 69-40 victory.
Annie Mathews led the way with 13 points for Northwest. Through the first eight games of the season she is averaging 10.4 points per game.
Freshman Tember Schechinger posted her first career double-double as a Bearcat against Lindenwood with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Bearcats have outscored opponents this season 577-424 and are shooting 46 percent from the floor.
Northwest and Nebraska-Kearney both earned a victory in their MIAA openers as the Lopers defeated Lincoln University 79-62. Nebraska-Kearney improved their record to 3-4, 1-0 with the win.
The Lopers leading scorer, junior Shelby Zimmerman, is averaging 12.3 points per game. Zimmerman is also pulling down six rebounds per contest.
Nebraska-Kearney and Northwest will meet at Bearcat Arena Saturday with a start time scheduled for 1:30 p.m. This will be the final MIAA conference game before the winter break. Northwest will take on Midland Lutheran Dec. 17 in non-conference action after finals week.
