MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team will open up December as they hit the road to take on Rogers State (Okla.).
The Bearcats have opened this season with a 4-2 record having lost both games by a combined seven points.
Junior Meridee Scott leads the Bearcats averaging 12 points per game and shooting 88 percent from the free throw line as she is 16-of-18.
Freshman Tember Schechinger has also provided an early spark for the Bearcats averaging 11.8 points per game. Schechinger also boasts the highest field goal percentage for the Bearcats at 65 percent.
So far the in-your-face defense the Bearcats have implemented this season has given them 85 steals on the year averaging 14.2 per game which is tops in the MIAA.
Also, Northwest has been solid shooting 77 percent from the free-throw line ranking them second in the MIAA in free-throw percentage. The Bearcats also rank third in the conference in three-point percentage shooting 40 percent.
Coach Kellogg and the Bearcats will take on Rogers State, who is transitioning to NCAA Division II, and currently ranked in the NAIA Top 25 at No. 8. The Hillcats enter at 6-1 as tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
This will be the final nonconference test for the Bearcats before the MIAA opener Dec. 5 against Lindenwood at Bearcat Arena.
