MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team is set to open up the 2012-13 season Friday at home against Quincy University.
The Bearcats are coming off a 6-22 record last season and looking to make a good impression in 2012 under first-year Head Coach Mark Kellogg. Kellogg will be making his coaching debut for Northwest after spending the previous seven seasons coaching for Fort Lewis College.
Kellogg was 173-46 while at Fort Lewis and led his team to two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships. Fort Lewis was the runner-up in NCAA DII tournament in the 2009-10 season.
Maggie Marnin returns after a solid freshman campaign as the leading returning scorer from last season averaging 7 ppg. Marnin also led the team in rebounds averaging 6.4 boards a game.
Senior Ashley Thayer looks to add on to her three point totals from last season as she went 31-of-106 from beyond the arc. Thayer led Northwest shooting 29 percent from three-point range and also led the team shooting 81 percent from the free-throw line.
Northwest will be taking on Quincy University who is coming off an NCAA tournament bid and was 22-8 last season. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bearcat Arena.
