‘Cats finish exhibition season with win
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team finished its exhibition schedule Saturday taking a 91-73 win over Peru State inside Bearcat Arena.
Northwest was led by Maggie Marnin who tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Marnin was one of five different Bearcats to finish in double figures as Northwest was led by Meridee Scott with 13 points.
Although the effort was much improved in the win Saturday night, the Bearcats were still out-rebounded by their counterparts, 41-34. However, Northwest found its inside presence taking a 38-18 advantage in the paint.
On the offensive end of the floor Northwest shot over 50 percent and continued to shoot the ball well from the free-throw line. Annie Mathews finished 4-for-4 as the Bearcats went 18-for-25 as a team in the win.
Ashleigh Nelson also provided a spark off the bench adding 13 points and going 4-for-5 from behind the three-point line.
The Bobcats were led by Courtney Ward as she led all players with 18 points.
The Bearcats open their season next week as they host Quincy University 6 p.m. Friday night from Bearcat Arena.
